We all have various ideas what a perfect partner should be like. If we look back at art history, a perfect woman got carved out of ivory by Pygmalion in Greece. We fall in love with our own creations. This oil painting reflects on the idea of finding love in a perfect male.

In this painting I designed my color scheme around colorful grays with strong notes of reddish browns in her hair. I balanced these colors with gentle, light blues and light greens seen in the flowers and leaves. Note that the color of her hair and eyes appears more red than in the actual painting.

Step-by-step oil painting process:

My creative process involves a photo-shoot, a preliminary graphite drawing and then continuous layering in oil paint to develop the idea visually.

I leafed the panel to have the silver shine. Because of the aluminum leaf this painting changes its tone, depending on the time of the day and positioning in the room. I favor the aluminum leaf over the silver leaf because it shows no signs of tarnishing and shines the same.
