This contemporary oil painting is about feeling joy creating art and doing what we love. Pink lotuses bloom and turquoise leaves swirl around the figure in a beautiful dance.

In this painting I designed my color scheme around turquoise and pink – the stronger versions of colors I see at sunset here in Naples, FL. I wanted to create a joyful mood blending the figure with the background space, just like when I feel closing my eyes and breathing in fresh air at the beach. The idea for the pattern comes from my trip to Japan where I saw doors and gates of the temples decorated with rich, colorful woodcarvings. The original color of this pattern was blue and green with some gold leafing. I leafed the panel to have silver shine and then to paint over it in pink-turquoise. Leafing itself presented a huge challenge as I had to change my usual way of layering paint and softening the edges. But because of the aluminum leaf (that doesn’t tarnish) this painting changes its color of silver depending on the time of the day and positioning in the room. I favor the aluminum leaf instead of the silver leaf because it shows no signs of tarnishing and shines like silver. I hope this contemporary art painting will bring positive vibes to you!
