Description
I overplayed the blue pattern over the figure to create the effect of a person blending with its surroundings. I love Venetian wall patterns that served me as a visual inspiration for this painting. I wanted to create artwork with a powder blue pattern reminiscent of the frost I loved to see on windows back home. Sometimes it’s not clear for me what I want to say with my art but when I’m done painting, the meaning reveals itself to me. I painted it because I felt invisible. Therefore we neither see her face, nor her body as she melts into the frosted past. This oil painting can give you a totally different interpretation because art mirrors different parts of us… Can you imagine hanging this piece on your wall?
Before I begin painting, I work on my initial idea by completing several colored pencil drawings that you see below. This drawing process helps me finalize my composition, pattern design, and color harmony. Up close you can notice some silver leaf catching light in her hair piece and grass blade. This shimmery color changes depending on your point of view. I use the aluminum leaf instead of the silver leaf because it shows no signs of tarnishing and looks like silver.
