Description
My visual inspiration for this romantic painting comes from Spanish art, Granada in particular. Granada means ‘pomegranate’, and if you travel there, you can see this symbol in art and decorum all around the city. This fruit reminds me of an open heart. I planned my color scheme around warm and cool juxtaposition of hues. Peachy skin balances out a light blue background. The pattern of silver leaves changes its color depending on the light.
Step-by-step oil painting process:
My artistic process usually involves a photo-shoot, preliminary graphite drawing, leafing and then a continuous layering of oil paint to develop the idea visually. I work on a full-scale drawing first to make an outline that I then transfer onto my panel. This original oil painting was a very laborious process that involved gilding and its processing, and many weeks of painting. I built the layers of paint in full color and used some glazing and scumbling oil painting techniques to adjust the colors and tones closer to the end of my painting process. I have about 4 layers painting the skin tones to achieve the subtle value transitions.
