So You Want to Buy Art?
Buying art is not easy. First we must search for
the perfect image, then we wonder how it will look on our wall, and
finally we must frame it without breaking the bank (framing is
expensive, but luckily certain oil canvases can be hung and look
just as good unframed).Finding Perfect Image
The notion goes that most 'personal' art is
bought on impulse, while decorative art is usually sought out based
on size and color. For your convenience I have arranged my art by
subject providing huge preview images with accurate color, size and
media information.
What are Prints?
Prints (also called giclees) are posters,
professionally made reproductions of the original paintings, and a
cheaper alternative to owning the original art. All my prints are
limited edition and therefore are numbered and signed.
Framing
Most artworks look more attractive and complete
when framed. In fact, you cannot hang a watercolor or a paper
drawing without a frame (unless you tape it to the wall of course).
In the same time larger-than-life canvases are typically hung
without frame, although smaller oil paintings tend to look better if
framed.
If you want your artwork framed - let
me know! I will be glad to recommend you various options and
frame the painting or drawing for you.
AmericanFrame.com is an excellent source of frames. Inexpensive
but elegant metal frames are the most practical choice for most
purposes and the cost for an average-size painting is about $40.
Alternatively, you can frame the art yourself at your local framing
center such as Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Such custom framing is
usually more expensive and you must be prepared to spend between
$100-$150 depending on the size of the painting and type of frame.
Mat Cutting
Framing watercolors and drawings (i.e. art on paper) usually
involves cutting a mat that serves decorative purposes as well as
enhances the size of the painting and makes non-standard image size
fit standard frames that can be purchased at department stores. I
will cut a mat for all framed art that requires one free of charge.
If you have a specific type or size of mat in mind -
let me know and I will be
glad to accommodate your needs.
Framed Art
Some artworks in this gallery are already framed.
When the artwork is framed there are usually two images: one with
and another without frame. Ready-made frames are provided for your
convenience and can be removed if you desire the art unframed or
wish to replace them.
Shipping
There are several ways to ship artwork. The most
economical shipping method can be used for unframed artwork on paper
(e.g. prints, watercolors or drawings) that can be rolled into a
tube. The cost of tube shipping via US Postal service is
$10 including the tube.
Framed art and all oil canvases must be shipped in a
box and the cost varies between $20 and
$50. Very large
canvases (e.g. more than 4' on each side) cannot be shipped via
standard methods and would require freight arrangements.
I will be glad to used expedited shipping any other
shipping arrangements to suit your needs. Please feel free to
email me with questions
or requests. Payment Options
